Two local apprentices are among 11 from the northern region competing for the coveted Master Builders Carters Apprentice of the Year title.
The two apprentices – one employed by Broswick Builders in Wellsford and the other by Stirling Build in Warkworth – won’t be named until after the regional final winners are announced at an awards evening in Auckland in August.
From there, the regional winner will go on to represent the northern region at the national final in October.
The competition recognises and celebrates apprentices who are building strong skills and showing promise as the next generation of builders.
Master Builders president Kieran Mallon says northern apprentices are learning their trade in a market that has experienced significant change over recent years.
“While conditions remain challenging for many businesses, the need for skilled tradespeople remains as important as ever,” he says.
“This competition provides apprentices with an opportunity to demonstrate the skills, resilience and professionalism they are developing.”
