Paddling a kayak is a whole lot easier and more fun now on the Hibiscus Coast, with the opening of specialist store Canoe & Kayak in  Whangaparāoa.

As well as stocking a comprehensive range of kayaks, canoes, clothing and accessories, Canoe & Kayak also runs kayaking trips, tours and courses to help people make the most of local rivers, estuaries and bays.

Founder Pete Townend, who lives at Okura, says there are a range of fun activities planned for the summer, including new guided bioluminescence kayaking tours at dusk, and Weiti River trips between Silverdale and Arkles Bay, where people can leave their cars at one end and Canoe & Kayak will pick them up at the other when they have paddled up or downstream.

“It’s all about integrating with the locals and getting more people out on the water enjoying themselves. These are great family activities,” Pete says. “We’ve also got kayak fishing trips, where we take you out with all the gear and teach you how to catch a fish.”

Canoe & Kayak provides everything needed for tours and trips, and stocks a string of leading brands in-store, including Delta, Old Town, Viking, Mission, Palm, Railblaza, Day Two and Kokatat.

Whangaparāoa is the ninth branch of Canoe & Kayak in the North Island and it is open seven days a week.

“We live, breathe and sleep kayaks. It’s who we are,” manager James Fitness says. “We aim to offer the best range to give the best choices, and the best and fairest prices, too.”
