Coast businesses recognised

Two Hibiscus Coast businesses have won national recognition at the 2021 Westpac New Zealand Franchise Awards, presented on March 6.

The awards ceremony was to have been held last November, but was postponed and then eventually held online.

Franchise New Zealand, owned by Simon and Lorraine Lord, was named Service Provider of the Year, while Alicia Nixon, owner of Caci Silverdale, won Retail & Hospitality Franchisee of the Year.

Nixon opened her skin care clinic on the Hibiscus Coast in December 2019, later adding a second clinic in Warkworth.

She brought 25 years of working with international beauty brands to her own business, along with a passion for helping customers to feel confident in their skin.

“At Caci, we’re all about customers and their needs, their goals and their journey, and creating a loving, safe environment where they can feel comfortable,” she says. “A lot of people can feel intimidated, but we’re here to help everyone, no matter what their concerns are.”

Nixon’s award also recognised her focus on education and professional development within her team. The judges noted that Caci Silverdale showed strong evidence of growth despite Covid.

“They have increased the number of staff and extended their trading hours, as well as achieving financial growth,” the judges said. “They invest in their staff and are progressive in establishing strong relationships with neighbouring businesses.”

Franchise New Zealand’s win put the icing on the cake of their 30 years in business, which they will mark in May.

The company provides promotional and educational services to the $37 billion franchise sector via a range of media including a print and digital magazine, website, email newsletter and social media platforms.

“When Lorraine and I first arrived in NZ from the UK, where we had both worked in franchising, there was a very limited understanding of franchising,” Lord says. “Since 1991, we’ve devoted our time to teaching people about buying a franchise and promoting franchises.”

The judges said Franchise New Zealand demonstrated an ‘above and beyond’ level of commitment to the sector and an ability to learn quickly.

“They show true dedication to franchising, with their media providing industry profile and key marketing, as well delivering return for their business.”
