Consent granted for Farmers Silverdale complex

Earthworks are underway for the four level Farmers complex in Silverdale and the concept plan revealed in Hibiscus Matters’ September 16, 2015 edition has gained resource consent with only minor amendments.

Auckland Council’s Northern Resource Consents manager, Ian Dobson, says some “very minor” alterations were made to the exterior of the building, particularly along the Central Boulevard street façade before approval was granted.

He says that a financial contribution (up to a maximum of $111,000) was also secured from the applicant, to be put towards the installation of traffic lights at the Millwater Parkway and Milner Avenue intersection, should the need arise.

The consent decision states that a total of 384 car parks are to be provided.

The building, on the corner of Millwater Parkway and Silverdale Street, includes an undercover shopping plaza, a 5490sqm Farmers store over two levels and up to 30 retail stores (including Whitcoulls, Stevens and three cafés).

Speculation has been rife on the Coast over the impact that the new centre may have on The Plaza in Whangaparaoa – Farmers, Whitcoulls and Stevens are all part of the James Pascoe Group and all currently have stores in The Plaza.

Farmers Trading Company chief executive Michael Power says that no decision has yet been made as to whether those stores will remain in The Plaza once the new building is open.

He says although there is a lot of work taking place on the site at the moment, it is preparatory work (foundation, draining and retaining) and construction of the building itself is still some time away.

Farmers Trading Company purchased the 1.16ha site in 2014.

Mr Power says that he anticipates that the new centre could open in late 2017.
