Introducing: Yogi’s Bar

Yogi’s bar, newly opened at Fairway Bay Marina, Gulf Harbour, is known for its friendly relaxed atmosphere.

The converted shipping container, at Fairway Bay Marina, has been simply decorated with a nautical theme, including fishing floats and marine charts. Its name is written artistically in rope.

The location is part of Yogi’s Bar’s charm. Patrons can come in their shorts and jandals or other casual attire and enjoy a beverage of their choice, practically right on the water.

Owner Bronwyn Fraser and her husband live aboard their launch in Fairway Bay Marina and they could see a great opportunity for a bar – not only for the people with boats in the marina, but also for the population moving into the surrounding Fairway Bay development.

Bronwyn says the idea was to keep it simple and have a bar that was friendly and relaxing with plenty of stories being told and lots of laughter.

“We based the design of the bar on the Fishing Club in Tonga, where we lived for 18 months,” she says.

The idea was to wait until the weather warmed up a bit more before opening, but Bronwyn was asked so often about the bar that she eventually gave in and opened back in September. She says her husband often brings his guitar along, which adds to the relaxing and friendly feel of the bar. There is a tender docking facility so you can dock right alongside the bar. “Not many local bars are this close to the water. This will be wonderful in summer,” Bronwyn says.

Along with the selection of beers, wines, spirits and non-alcoholic drinks there are bar snacks – including fries and wedges that are air fried rather than deep-fried and served on recycled wooden platters. “The bar has been a lot of fun already and has become part of our lives in a very short time with our great patrons making this happen,” Bronwyn says.

Yogi’s Bar is open on Thursdays 5pm to 10pm and Friday and Saturday 5pm to when the last person leaves (up to midnight).
