A public meeting will be held at Matakana Hall on May 8 to outline plans for a proposed country club-style retirement village in Tongue Farm Road.
Developer Nathan Sanderson, of the Sanderson Group, will host the drop-in session, giving residents the opportunity to learn more about the development and ask questions.
The proposal involves building around 208 retirement units, with homes expected to start at $2 million and measure around 200 square metres, as well as a 30-bed care facility.
Sanderson says the meeting is intended to introduce himself and his team to the Matakana community and provide an overview of the project.
“We want to share information about the proposed retirement village development and take feedback from the Matakana community,” he said.
Everyone is welcome to attend the session, which will include a presentation followed by a question-and-answer opportunity. Sanderson says the team is also open to more detailed discussions with residents outside the drop-in session.
The presentation will cover key aspects of the project, the developer’s experience in retirement communities, and the anticipated timeline.
The project is currently progressing through the Government’s Fast-track approval process, which aims to streamline housing, infrastructure and development proposals.
Sanderson says the application has already passed the first stage of the process, known as referral. He expects to lodge the second stage – the substantial application – around the middle of this year. A final decision is anticipated by late 2026 or early 2027.
If approved, Sanderson hopes to begin work on the development in mid next year, around the same time he and his family plan to move to Matakana.
“I’m really looking forward to being part of the community and delivering a very special project,” he said.
The proposed village would be the first large-scale retirement living option in the Matakana area. Part of the plan includes about 25 hectares of native wetland, and riparian planting.
Residents interested in learning more about the proposal can attend the Matakana Hall meeting on May 8, between 2pm and 5.30pm.
