A new second-hand marketplace is bringing a different approach to retail on the Hibiscus Coast, combining the convenience of an online marketplace with the experience of browsing a physical shop.
The Scandinavian-style secondhand marketplace Re:Circle opened at Coast Plaza five months ago, bringing its resale-retail concept to the Hibiscus Coast after establishing stores in Hamilton and Onehunga.
From books and clothing to records, toys and even a cement mixer at one point, the range of goods changes constantly as new sellers join and stock is refreshed.
Re:Circle chief executive Henrik Stovring says the store is designed to make selling unwanted items simpler for people who don’t want the hassle of arranging online sales.
“Our aim as a company is to take things from the ‘too hard’ basket and put them into the ‘too easy’ basket,” he says.
He says the opening on the Hibiscus Coast was initially a leap into the unknown, but the community’s response has been overwhelmingly positive.
“The space is so big, many people have spent a long time walking through the stalls and finding things they didn’t know they wanted or needed. There’s a big range of items around.”
In addition to giving pre-owned goods a second life, the business hosts community market days, including a twice-yearly children’s market. Stovring says the first Coast market attracted the biggest turnout the event has seen across the company’s locations.
