Local boaties will see a new face next time they need their mooring serviced, following the recent purchase of Sandspit-based Rodney Mooring Services by marine systems engineer Jack Rogers.
As well as swing mooring maintenance, inspections and compliance reports, Rogers can carry out repairs and upgrades, as well as certified installation of new moorings.
He can also handle freight requests from Sandspit to Kawau and other gulf islands, and carry out mooring and vessel salvage.
“We have a 12-metre self-propelled barge with a HIAB to lift moorings out of the water and we are a pest-free warrant operator, meaning all our vessels and cargo are free of pests, weeds and diseases before travelling,” he says.
Rogers was born and brought up on the North Shore and recently moved to Takatu with his partner.
“We always knew we wanted to move away from busy-ness of the city, so I started looking at businesses up here and this was right up my alley,” he says.
“I’ve always been a sailor, and obsessed with the water and with anything to do with engineering – I also have a small marine engineering business, Lowlands Marine.”
He says Rodney Moorings covers the coast from Leigh down to the Weiti River at Stillwater, an area with around 1500 moorings all up.
“Unlike other contractors, we’re based locally, so we can get to clients quickly and easily, even in an emergency,” he says.
“We’re looking forward to providing a prompt, professional service with good communication.”
Rodney Mooring Services provides a year-round service, weather permitting.
