Profile
The Donkeys at Highfield Reserve
The donkeys Tina, Tara, Topsy, Turvey, Truffle and Truffle’s offspring Toby, Tilly II, and Titan, are living at Highfield Garden Reserve, Mahurangi East Road, on the Snells Beach/Algies Bay boundary.
Highfield Garden Reserve offers visitors, at any time of the day, the opportunity to see the donkeys (but please only feed the donkeys carrots, apples, or silverbeet) and to enjoy the walks and amazing seaviews.
Alison and Ted Roberts gifted the land to the people of New Zealand in 1985 and a Memorandum of Understanding with the Council (signed 23/01/2014) preserves the rights of the donkeys to graze.
Members of the Highfield Garden Reserve and Donkey Society Inc. and a dedicated team of volunteers generously donate time, money, and materials to enhance the reserve and ensure the security and wellbeing of the donkeys.
If you would like to become a member, information is available from the brochure box at the Reserve or through the Facebook page “Donkeys at Highfield”
To volunteer contact Ox Wightman 0274 987 214 or Peter Caccia-Birch 021 168 9698
