Profile
Warkworth Music began life as The Rodney Music Club over 40 years ago with the object of stimulating interest in and appreciation of music by arranging a series of concerts each year. Introducing young people to classical music has always been one of its aims and it remains so today. In 1996 the Club was renamed Warkworth Music Society and nowadays it goes under the simpler title of Warkworth Music.
Its committee arranges a subscription series of varied genres ranging from chamber music to jazz and during the year some extra events may be advertised to our membership. At all our concerts the performers are of a very high calibre and often have international experience.
Warkworth Music has its own Yamaha concert grand piano, which is well regarded by pianists. Until the middle of 2017 the piano had been stored at Mahurangi College but now that the restoration of the Warkworth Town Hall has been completed we have a permanent home for it at last.
Other venues we use are The Belfry at Ascension Wine Estate, the Old Masonic Hall in Warkworth and the Matakana Village Hall. At all venues audiences are much closer to the musicians than in a large hall, giving a different and special experience, and very often performers are available to talk to audience members after the performance.
