Coast’s first car vaccination

Update: Demand for the Silverdale drive through vaccination site has been so high that all available appointments filled up fast. The medical centre says it will open more spaces as soon as it can secure staff. The Silverdale Medical spokesperson says that Bunnings is willing for the drive-through to continue in Level 3 but that will be considered once more information about any coming alert level changes is known. The drive-through vaccinations must be booked at BookMyVaccine. You cannot turn up without an appointment.

A partnership between Silverdale Medical (and its two other clinics, Weiti Creek and Millwater) and Bunnings has brought drive-through vaccination to the Hibiscus Coast.

A Silverdale Medical spokesperson says the team is grateful for the community spirit and generosity of Bunnings in supporting the initiative.  Bunnings has donated the use of its car park as well as two staff members to assist with directing traffic.

The service began vaccinating essential workers yesterday and public access begins on Tuesday, September 7.

Anyone aged 12 or over is eligible and a whole family can drive through together, as long as everyone has booked.

The spokesperson says that the drive through is not the best choice for patients with a history of significant adverse reaction to vaccines. Although the car park has emergency response protocols, equipment and skilled staff it may not be as comfortable as an indoor facility for those types of patients.

The service must be booked at www.BookMyVaccine.nz (search for Silverdale and choose Silverdale Bunnings Carpark (Weiti Creek Medical). You will need to bring some form of photo ID to confirm your identity.
