Food bank seeks more donations

Fresh fruit and canned fish are among the items being sought by Foodlink.

Warkworth Christian Foodlink has appealed for further donations of food in the wake of the latest Covid-19 outbreak.

The food bank service would especially like to see donations of biscuits, muesli bars, canned fish, spreads, fresh fruit, eggs, soap and toothpaste.

Donors can drop items off at Mahurangi Presbyterian Church, 5 Pulham Road, Warkworth. Items should be left on the table in the carport in front of the church office during weekdays between 9am and 1.30pm. Food left after 1.30pm may not be picked up by Foodlink staff until the following day.

Alternatively, donations can be made at the food box at Warkworth Countdown supermarket.

Foodlink manager Roger Mackay says anxiety over the latest lockdown has prompted several people to call the service asking if they can rely on Foodlink to help them out with food needs if they find themselves running short.

Mr Mackay says the likely increase in demand comes at a time when Foodlink is being consistently asked to supply more food parcels each month this year than it did during the same period last year.
