The Government has outlined the rules for Northlanders currently in Alert Level 2 who wish to visit other parts of the country also in Alert Level 2.
Residents in Northland can visit other areas of the country also in Alert Level 2, including for a holiday, as long as they can get there without going into, out of or through the Auckland region.
Northlanders wanting to travel into, out of, or through Auckland can only do so for permitted travel only.
Permitted travel through Auckland to areas beyond Auckland is slightly more flexible than permitted travel into Auckland.
You can travel through Auckland if you are …
- going to or returning from work
- going to your main home
- relocating your main home or your business premises on a permanent basis
- attending an education entity
- going to a funeral or tangihanga, or a wedding or civil union
- collecting or accompanying a deceased person.
Northlanders travelling through Auckland must travel without stopping as much as possible. You can stop in an emergency, to use a toilet or get petrol, but you must follow Alert Level 4 guidelines.
The Northland border checkpoints are at Mangawhai Road turn off on State Highway One, on Mangawhai Road north of Coal Hill Road, on Black Swamp Road west of Rako Road, at the intersection of Mangawhai Road and Cames Road and at the intersection of Mangawhai Road and Ryan Road.
