Grocery shopping update

Shoppers in store are asked to wear a mask and practise social distancing.

A message from Countdown supermarkets following the Level 4 lockdown announcement:

  • Please buy only what you need. There’s plenty of food and groceries for everyone, but we know that when some people stock up, it means others can’t get what they need. We have a limit of six in place on some items in Auckland. These are: toilet paper, flour, bags of rice, dry pasta, UHT milk, frozen vegetables, baby formula and pet food.
  • Keep it kind in our stores and with our delivery drivers. We do the best we can, and keeping our team safe is always our priority.
  • We’ve re-started our Priority Assistance service for online shopping. If you’re already registered for this, all your previous details are good to go. If you’re new to this service for vulnerable and older New Zealanders who must stay home, you can find what you need here.
  •  If you’re feeling unwell, or have been notified that you are a casual contact of a positive Covid-19 case, please stay home. Call Healthline or your GP and take a test.

If you’re shopping in our stores:

  • Please wear a mask, scan in using the Covid tracing app or the sign-in book if you don’t have the app, and use the hand sanitiser available as you enter our stores.
  • We’ve put in extra cleaning and Covid hygiene measures including physical distancing – please maintain a two metre distance between customers.
  • We’ll be limiting the number of customers in our stores so that there is space for everyone to shop safely. We’d recommend following the government’s advice to have one dedicated shopper per bubble.
  • Every second checkout and self-serve checkout will be closed and you will need to pack your own bags.
  • Free Fruit for Kids and loose single bakery items aren’t available and our bulk food bins are closed. BYO containers will not be accepted and Rug Doctors will not be available for hire.

If you’re shopping online:

  • All deliveries will be contactless. Your delivery driver will knock on your door, leave the groceries on your doorstep and you’ll get a text message to let you know they have been delivered.
  • At the moment we may not be able to source the exact item you have ordered, so please tick “allow substitutes” at the online checkout and we’ll get you what we can. Our personal shoppers may not be able to phone you to check substitutions, but we’ll do our best to get it right.
  • Your preferred delivery or pick up spot may not be available. However our online service is available seven days in advance so if you can’t get an order today, please check if there is a time that suits you later on in the week.
  • For Pickup customers, you won’t be able to BYO bags at the moment.
