The Mahurangi Winter Festival of Lights will feature a new attraction this year.
Warkworth-based ITSS Engineering has made an installation called Angel Wings, which is based on a model first seen in Canada.
“The goal is always to add new elements to the festival, and ITSS generously donated these for the event,” festival organiser Murray Chapman said.
ITSS general manager Graham Buchs says the work took no more than a day and was created by designer Rob Patterson, fabricator/assembler Neil Griffin and painter Jimmy McQuarrie.
“We thought it was a great idea for the festival, something quite unique, and for that reason we decided to collaborate,” Buchs said.
The annual festival was first held in 2018 as an initiative to make winter in Warkworth more enjoyable.
“It is designed for two main purposes – to bring joy to families and also to support hospitality businesses in town,” Chapman said.
Festival goers will be able to “wear” the angel wings and have their photos taken, by accessing the structure via a set of stairs.
Pak’nSave Warkworth is hosting the wings installation in-store from June 1 as part of a month-long promotion. Customers will be invited to:
• Take a photo with the wings
• Share their photos
• Visit The Photo Store Warkworth to print their photo and officially enter a competition draw.
The competition winner will receive a $500 Pak’nSave Warkworth grocery voucher, with the draw taking place live at the Mahurangi Winter Festival of Lights at 5pm. The winner must be present to accept the prize.
This year’s festival will be held on Saturday July 4, from 3pm to 9pm.
