Mangawhai Activity Zone (MAZ) will host the annual Bowl Bash on Saturday, February 7.
The event is organised by former professional skateboarder Andrew Morrison and his wife Shiree.
The competition welcomes both male and female participants aged seven to 55, across four categories – Open Men’s, Open Women’s, Under 16s and Masters (40+). All divisions skate for around 40 minutes in heats, with judging based on the overall impression of the entire heat rather than a single run.
The reigning women’s champion Mizuho Hasegawa, from Japan, will return to defend her title. Hasegawa also won the 2025 Salt Lake City X Games and will be one of the main international figures, alongside Australians Hudson Walker and Mia Kretzer.
The festival has earned a reputation as one of the country’s premier skateboarding events and is expected to draw around 1000 spectators throughout the day.
The alcohol-free event traditionally held over Waitangi Weekend, starts at 10am and will feature a barber stand for anyone who wants a haircut.
The Bowl Bash is free to attend and is sponsored by Cariuma and Yeti, in association with the Kaipara District Council.
