After an unforgettable performance at the Leigh Sawmill Jazz Festival in early January, Carnivorous Plant Society returns to the same venue on August 3 and take the stage at 4.30pm with a show that promises to be just as captivating.
The Auckland-based quintet, known for their cinematic sound and stunning visuals, is touring in support of their new EP, The Lizard.
Band leader Finn Scholes says it’s a collection of tunes designed to entertain lizards in a post-apocalyptic world.
A talented cartoonist, the performance will be paired with Scholes’ hand-drawn animations that visually interpret the stories behind the songs.
“From tales of space travel to themes of love, loss and the struggles of slavery, each piece of music is woven together with a rich narrative to provoke thought and stir emotions,” he says.
“The result is a multi-layered experience that’s as intellectually stimulating as it is entertaining for both adults and kids alike.”
This unique band has spent more than a decade honing their craft, developing an impressive blend of composition, musical virtuosity, and dynamic ensemble playing.
Their intricate soundscapes draw inspiration from the rhythms of South America, the tonalities of Southeast Asia, and myriad global influences, Scholes says.
Carnivorous Plant Society’s music is, well, all consuming, and their live show is a must-see.
