The Salty Dog Social Club will host its sixth annual fishing competition on Saturday, January 31, from 3am with organisers looking to build on last year’s event, which attracted an impressive 145 anglers.
Last year saw strong results across all categories and they’re hoping for more of the same this time around, with a repeat of the favourable conditions.
The competition is limited to 45 boats and will again be paired with a community Family Fun Day, which will run at the Salty Dog Inn in Snells Beach from 2pm.
It will feature activities for the kids including bouncy castles, games, a lucky dip, Mr Whippy, face painting, a sausage sizzle and live entertainment, plus a DJ from 4pm.
Prizegiving will begin with a barbecue for anglers at 6pm followed by formal prize presentations at 6.30pm with organisers confirming a range of major prize categories alongside multiple spot prizes.
A portion of proceeds from the event will be donated to the Kawau Volunteer Coastguard to support its work in the local area on and off the water.
The club has acknowledged the support of its sponsors including Mason Contractors, Snells Beach Motors and the Salty Dog Inn, who are major contributors to the event.
The social club currently has 90 members and runs several social events throughout the year such as a progressive dinner and a fun bowls tournament, while also raising funds for local charities.
New members are always welcome.
Entry forms for the fishing competition are available from the bar at the Salty Dog Inn or by emailing Jez at officetsdsc@yahoo.com with the subject: Salty Dog Fishing Competition 2026. First-year members receive a Salty Dog polo shirt.
