Circus arts come to Orewa

The circus is coming to Orewa Library these school holidays.

Hula hooping, juggling and acrobalance are some of the skills that will be taught by members of the Dust Palace at Orewa Library during the school holidays.

Children aged five–12 can spend an hour with two of the Dust Palace’s performers, having a go at circus arts – but don’t expect trampoline or high wire, these are “ground based” activities.

The Dust Palace, which began five years ago and is based in Penrose, specialises in circus theatre, corporate performances and education. Last year it launched scholarships that assist young people with limited resources to access training in the circus arts.

Dust Palace co-director Eve Gordon says that circus training is not only good for the body, but also “an amazing tool for self-development, awareness, motivation, communication skills, communication and confidence”.

As well as the Dust Palace workshop, which takes place at Orewa Library on April 8 at 2.30pm, other circus related activities at the library include Circus Craft and stories on April 15, 2.30pm, and a Learn to Juggle class, which includes making juggling balls, on April 16 at 2.30pm.
