College presents fairy tale performance

Senior students will take to the stage at Mahurangi College in June for a Cinderella story with a difference.

Forever After is a romance and comedy suitable for all ages. The director, Wendy Sutherland, has been working on the show for more than a year.

It will be performed by 70 students from Years 9 to 13 and will include folk dances, original choreography and music, a live band and even some parkour. Students have also been involved in creating the sets, lighting and costumes.

The story follows the gentle and kind Danielle (played by Krysana Hanley) who has been mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters (Eloise Williams-Mart, Holly Rusher, Eden Adam) since the death of her father 10 years before.

Henry the Prince of France (Xavier Garneau-Roughan) is meanwhile desperately trying to avoid the arranged marriage his father the King (Jacob Bindon) has forced upon him.

The production follows the paths of these two characters as they overcome traditional hierarchical class systems and bring a modern equality to the old-fashioned love story of Cinderella.

The show opens with a matinee performance on June 15 with further matinee performances on June 16 and 23. Evening performances are on June 20, 24 and 26.
