A free guided snorkel and kayak community day will be held at the Whangateau Harbour on Sunday February 22.
The day is held in memory of the late Dr Roger Grace, who was a champion for the harbour and the ocean.
The two-hour tours will be led by Mountains to Sea guides, who will explore the harbour’s mangroves and sandstone reef.
Participants will learn about the estuary’s ecology and discover the species that live here, from eagle rays and triplefins to parore and mantis shrimp.
Organisers say this is a relaxed, family-friendly way to connect with the harbour.
There will be two sessions – one starting at 10am and the other at midday.
