Kaipara School show celebrates all things country

Kaipara Flats School is the place to be on Saturday, November 1 when it holds its much-loved Country Show Day, running from 8.30am to 2pm.

The event promises a full-day of family fun, rural traditions and community spirit, with proceeds going towards a new school playground.

The day’s packed programme includes animal judging, kids’ games, shearing and woodchopping demonstrations, along with live and silent auctions boasting great prizes. This year’s event also features exciting new attractions, including a seven-metre high mobile rock climbing wall, live music, and a range of food and craft stalls.

Principal Jason Irvine says the show, which has been running since 1941, remains a highlight of the local calendar.

“Show Day is a perfect family outing,” he says. “Families can enjoy everything from BBQ and baked goods to crafts, games and live entertainment from local bands. It’s a wonderful way to celebrate our rural roots and provide essential support the school.”

Proceeds from the day will go toward building a new playground, planned for completion next year to replace the one damaged by the January 2023 floods and Cyclone Gabrielle. The new play space will cater for all age groups and encourage creativity and exploration. Funding will come from a mix of board support, PTA fundraising, community grants and other local initiatives.

Kaipara Flats School has 120 students from Year 0 to Year 6, and organisers are hoping for a strong turnout to help make the project a reality.

“Anyone can attend, and we encourage everyone to come along, have a look, and enjoy a great day,” Irvine said.
