The Rodney Scrabble Club’s biennial competition attracted 43 keen players and their vocabularies to the Mahurangi East Community Centre on November 11.
The tournament is the club’s biggest and earns players ranking points to advance grades.
The day attracted competitors from as far away as Wellington and Whangarei, and seven players competed from the Rodney club.
The top local players were Ernie Gidman, who won Grade C, and Jeanette Grimmer, who finished fourth in Grade A.
Three Rodney players also recently competed in the Seniors World Championships in Christchurch.
The club has been running for over 30 years and meets at Totara Park Retirement Village every Monday at 1pm. New members are welcome.
