More men to hit the low notes

If you’re a man and can sing, then you’ve got what it takes to join the Matakantata Choir. The Matakana-based singers have found themselves a little short in the bass section and are keen to recruit some male voices. There is no audition and no age limit, and music and learning tracks are provided.

The choir’s first two performances this year will be in June, when it will present a programme of choir favourites such as Bring Him Home (Les Misérables) and Somebody to Love (Queen).

Choir member Jenni Francis says the choir sings more contemporary music and “there are a lot of laughs and fun along the way”.

Rehearsals are held at the Matakana Hall on Thursday evenings, from 7pm. The first rehearsal for this year starts next Thursday, February 12. All welcome.
