Prodigious antipodean four-piece to play Warkworth

Get ready for a concert featuring a group of classical musicians on the rise.

The Antipodes Quartet is an ensemble of young instrumentalists on the cusp of professional careers who will be playing at the Warkworth Town Hall on Saturday, August 30, from 4pm.

The concert programme spans three centuries of music and will feature pieces from multiple continents, showcasing the considerable individual talents of the quartet.

The group comprises Lavinnia Rae (cello) Eden Annesley (violin) Tal Amoore (viola) and Mana Waiariki (violin).

Following her undergraduate studies in New Zealand, Rae moved to London where she completed a Master of Performance with Distinction at the Royal College of Music with Richard Lester.

Recently, she was on contract with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and has appeared as acting principal cello of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.

Annesley hails from New South Wales, Australia and is a New Colombo Plan scholar not to mention winner of the junior category of the Queensland International Chamber Music Competition. 

She obtained her Bachelor of Music (distinction) at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, graduating as the highest-achieving third year student, and has performed across Australia.

Born in Sydney, Amoore is a recipient of the NZ School of Music Director’s Award and is completing his Bachelor of Music at Te Koki, New Zealand School of Music.

A versatile orchestral musician, Amoore has performed with the NZ Symphony Orchestra, NZ Opera, the Royal NZ Ballet, Orchestra Wellington, and Wellington Opera

He was recently awarded one of two Royal Over-Seas League Pettman Scholarships. He has also been an Emerging Artist at the At the World’s Edge Festival in 2022 and 2024.

Waiariki (Te Whanau-a-Apanui) is Maori/Japanese and completed her Bachelor of Music at Te Koki New Zealand School of Music with Helene Pohl at the end of 2023.

She has played in orchestras across the country including Orchestra Wellington, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, and the New Zealand String Quartet.

The four-piece only came together for the first time in February, at the Adam Summer School for Chamber Music 2025 in Nelson, but they are already captivating audiences.
