Santa Claus still coming to town

The Tomashii Taiko drummers are among the performers who may be drumming up a Christmas vibe in Ōrewa in the lead up to Christmas.

In an effort to make the 10 days before Christmas more festive, Destination Ōrewa Beach is bringing outdoor entertainment to the town centre.

They will be small, street corner activities, designed to be viewed by passers by and add vibrancy to the town centre, but not to gather an audience.

They include musical buskers, twilight fire dancers, roaming cartoon characters handing out sweets, and chances to see Santa and have free digital photos taken.

Currently the start of these activities is planned for the afternoon of December 15.

There will be a number of opportunities to see Santa on his sleigh and have photos taken, starting on December 20. There are also low sensory Santa photo opportunities, which must be pre-booked through Destination Ōrewa Beach.

Santa will also roam Ōrewa at set times.

Whangaparāoa Guides are providing a free gift wrapping service outside Ōrewa’s Paper Plus, also at set times.

All the activities are funded from the budget for the cancelled Ōrewa Santa Parade provided by the Hibiscus & Bays Local Board.

The schedule is subject to change due to Covid limitations or weather. Schedule info and updates: www.Ōrewabeach.co.nz and Destination Ōrewa Beach’s Facebook page.
