Schools celebrate Matariki

On the eve of school holidays, students from Warkworth Primary, and Mahurangi, Whangaparāoa and Orewa Colleges welcomed Matariki 2026 with a stunning cultural performance at Mahurangi College last Thursday.

It is the first time Mahurangi has hosted the annual festival, which is normally held on the coast. As well as kapa haka, there were also performances by Pasifika groups, food stalls and fundraising stalls.

Organisers say Matariki herenga waka is all about inclusion and encouraging all people to celebrate Matariki together.
