Mangawhai-born and raised Monty Graham said he could not hide his pride after winning the Bowl Bash in the Under-16 division.
“I’m so stoked, especially as this is my last year in this age division. It was so special hearing Mangawhai locals cheering me on,” he said. “This is the biggest and best skateboarding event in New Zealand and it attracts some of the world’s top skaters.”
Monty completed a very successful 2025, finishing second in last year’s Bowl Bash and winning the New Zealand Secondary Schools competition in Auckland.
He is also part of Skateboarding New Zealand’s training camps for up-and-coming athletes targeting future Olympic Games.
“It’s incredible for a village like Mangawhai to host an event like this. I’m super hopeful and excited to be back in 2027 and give it my best,” he said.
However, he also acknowledged the importance of sponsorship support – whether from local businesses or others willing to contribute – to ensure the event continues in the coming years and can keep attracting some of the world’s top skaters.
