Solo exhibition to celebrate Matariki

He Tangi Mo o Whakaro – A Cry for Your Help uses a cracked Manaia to symbolise the imbalance humans cause.

Warkworth-based artist Ramari Tauroa-Tibble has a solo exhibition running in Takapuna until July 15 as part of Auckland Council’s Matariki Festival.

He Wahi Ataahua a Aotearoa, or New Zealand is Beautiful, is on at the Lake House Arts Centre in Fred Thomas Drive and features oil paintings inspired by seascapes throughout the Rodney area, which incorporate the koru and other Maori symbols. Ramari says her paintings are inspired by love, but also by our need as humans to start looking after our families, the planet and all living creatures.

Her passion stems from the beauty she sees around her, such as landscapes and sea and beach scenes, where colour can change dramatically, from subtle pastels to bold fiery tones.

Ramari is self-taught and started painting full-time in January last year, when her passion for art turned into an obsession. She says her life experiences are incorporated into every painting, whether they involve joy or sadness.

The exhibition runs daily, except Mondays, from now until July 15, between 9.30am and 3.30pm from Tuesday to Friday, and 10.30am to 1pm at weekends. Entry is free.
