
Two of Whangaparāoa College’s rock bands earned places on the podium at the 2025 North Shore finals for the Smokefreerockquest competition.

The People placed third, performing two of their original compositions.
“The energy in the crowd was awesome,” the group said on Instagram.
Second placed band, Chaotic Blaze, will now advance onto the national finals in September, expected to bring their signature chaos to the competition.
The winners of the national finals will earn $10k worth of musical equipment from the Rockshop, along with an NZ On Air Recording and Video Grant, while the National Top 15 acts will have a song recorded in a professional studio.
