As part of the global celebration marking Maurice Ravel’s 150th birthday, the Ristov Duo, violinist Marko Pop Ristov and pianist David Kelly, will perform ‘Love, Passion and Romance’ at the Warkworth Town Hall on Sunday, May 4.

It promises to be a special concert for classical music enthusiasts and newcomers alike.

A graduate of the Royal College of Music and Guildhall School of Music, Ristov is an internationally acclaimed violinist known for his virtuosity and expressive musicality.

He has been awarded numerous prizes and performed across the world with esteemed orchestras and ensembles.

His remarkable career includes performances with the Kensington Sinfonia, Bitola Chamber Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Macedonia, among others.

On the piano, the talented  Kelly brings his wealth of experience as the official repetiteur for New Zealand Opera and as an esteemed coach/accompanist for the University of Auckland.

It promises to be a captivating performance that explores the many faces of love through the eyes of some of the most celebrated composers in history.

The programme features pieces that evoke the tender, the passionate, and the sublime – from Brahms’ love for nature to Ravel’s fiery admiration for the gypsy culture.

The concert starts with a performance of Luigi Dallapiccola’s ‘Tartiniana Seconda’, to showcase the violin’s full emotional range.

Next Clara Schumann’s ‘Three Romances’ – delicate, ethereal, and deeply introspective reflecting the composer’s personal journey through love and longing.

Bella Bartok’s ‘Romanian Dances’ captures the vibrant rhythms and cultural richness of Eastern Europe and Johannes Brahms’ beautiful Violin Sonata No. 2 in A Major is blend of emotional warmth and complexity.

The programme closes with the fiery Tzigane by Maurice Ravel, a passionate and exuberant homage to the Romani way of life.
