Entries have opened for this year’s Warkworth Rose and Flower Show, and neighbourhoods are being encouraged to give their street a spruce for the Best Street award.
The event will be held at the Old Masonic Hall on November 18, with 29 categories, including an arrangement using driftwood and a teapot.
Points, trophies and prizes will be on offer, including the much coveted Perpetual Challenge Rose Bowl for the highest points scorer, first awarded in 1941.
The Best Garden category in Warkworth is back, as is the Best Street, which was won by the residents of Ashmore Crescent last year. Event publicist Lois New says this year they have broadened the criteria.
“Our judges are going to include Matakana and there is no need to officially enter because they will be judging from the street,” Lois says.
Mahurangi College won last year’s Aesthetic Contribution award. This category has also been expanded to include Matakana.
The show is in its fifth year at the Old Masonic Hall. Organisers hope next year it will return to the renovated Warkworth Town Hall.
Entries close November 17. The event runs from 12-5pm with prize giving at 1pm. Entry $2.
