Young artist rapt about raptors

Dinosaurs, as imagined for the Jurassic Park movies, are being recreated as art pieces by local preschool teacher Sam Domett.

Sam describes herself as “a bit of a tomboy” who has always loved animals and dinosaurs in particular. She is also a huge fan of animation and movies such as Jaws and Jurassic Park. A wardrobe-sized cupboard in the lounge of her Army Bay home is filled with plastic Jurassic Park figures.

One of her earliest memories is of her father drawing the Disney version of Rudyard Kipling’s Shere Khan the tiger from The Jungle Book; and her mother and sister make pottery animals.

Sam’s dinosaur drawings were her first in coloured pencil, and the first artworks that she’s offered for sale.

Several have already sold from Estuary Arts Centre, and commissions have begun to come in.
