Anyone with an interest in Antarctica is invited to the Antarctic Film Festival in Devonport on Wednesday, April 8.
The evening has been organised by the NZ Antarctic Society, which is promising the audience a captivating selection of short films straight from the icy wilderness at the bottom of the world.
The films blend stunning documentary footage, curated by award winning filmmaker Anthony Powell, that reveals the continent’s stark beauty and unforgiving conditions.
A guest speaker on the night will be Antarctic explorer Frank Graveson, who will compare what life was like at Scott Base in his time with the way it is today. Frank was one of two dog handlers at Scott Base from 1962 to 1964, when dogs were the most reliable form of transport in the rough country that the New Zealanders were mapping. He is the holder of the Polar Medal and is a Life member of the NZ Antarctic Society.
The event will be held at the Devonport Community Centre on April 8, starting at 6.30pm. Tickets are $20 and are available here: https://antarcticsociety.org.nz/events/the-antarctic-film-festival-in-auckland-north-shore/
