Footpaths trump parking spaces

Auckland Transport (AT) has been consulting with residents in Falls Road and Hill Street on footpath improvements.

AT plans to construct an extra 232 metres of paving, between the driveways of 78 and 80 Falls Road and 56 Hill Street.

The work will include new kerbing, and some driveway reconstruction. Broken yellow lines denoting no stopping areas will be added around the Champers Way and Falls Road intersection, and Albert Road and Hill Street intersection.

AT says this will give better visibility for drivers. However, it will also result in the loss of 20 parking spaces.

Public submissions on AT’s footpath improvements closed on August 31, with the work likely to be done over summer. “We will be in touch with local residents and businesses prior to any work taking place.”
