Community groups across Auckland can now apply for a new $1 million fund supporting climate action and emergency readiness projects.
Applications opened on February 2 for Te Ara Urutau – Climate and Emergency Ready Fund, a combined grant programme bringing several previous Council funding streams into a single application process.
The fund supports practical, community-led projects that reduce emissions, strengthen emergency preparedness, or help communities adapt to climate impacts such as flooding, sea-level rise and drought.
Chair of the Civil Defence and Emergency Management Committee, Councillor Alf Filipaina, says the fund recognises that communities face different challenges and bring different strengths.
“This fund is about empowering local and Māori-led solutions, supporting those who know their people and whenua best,” Filipaina says.
Eligible applicants include not-for-profit organisations, mana whenua and Māori groups, neighbourhood associations, schools, social enterprises and business improvement districts.
Groups can apply for funding across up to two project categories through a single application form. Grants range from $5000 to $15,000 for emergency readiness and greenhouse gas emissions reduction projects, and from $5000 to $40,000 for climate adaptation planning, with additional funding available for implementation.
Applications close on March 8, with funding decisions expected by the end of May. Info: https://aucklandclimateaction.nz/te-ara-urutau/
