A free workshop to help forest owners get a better understanding of what is involved in harvesting a plantation, including managing environmental impacts, will be held at the Warkworth Town Hall on Tuesday, May 20.
The workshop is targeting owners of a forest that isn’t managed by a forestry company or those who have responsibility for harvesting forestry, but don’t know where to start.
Restore Rodney East chairperson Tim Armitage says it will be an opportunity to plan for harvesting requirements in the next five years and learn where to get support.
“Small forestry block owners have told us they struggle to find harvesting contractors and the workshop will cover this, too,” Armitage says.
“They will learn about the processes, what’s required of them and what questions they should ask along the way.”
The workshop will be led by Perrin Ag on behalf of Auckland Council – Healthy Waters, with input from industry experts.
The Harvesting Small Forest Blocks workshop will run from 9am to 2pm and registration is essential. Email consult@perrinag.net.nz (Attn Courtney Stone or Carla Muller). Morning tea and lunch will be provided.
