Maintenance dredging underway

Motorists are being asked to avoid the Warkworth Wharf area at the moment as Auckland Council is currently removing about 1600m3 of silt and debris from the riverbed.

Auckland Council manager area operations Geoffrey Pitman says the silt has accumulated next to and under the wharf from severe weather events earlier in the year.

“If the silt isn’t removed, vessels will have difficulty berthing at the wharf, the floating pontoons may become unsafe, and the wharf structure could become damaged,” he says.

“This work is expected to take two weeks with the material disposed of at an appropriate site.

“The work area has been fenced off and we appreciate the public patience while this critical work is being undertaken by a local contractor.”
