The Tāpora Land and Coast Care Group has recently purchased a new vehicle to support pest control and environmental restoration work across the Tāpora and Okahukura Peninsula areas.
The new vehicle is a Honda Pioneer SXS1000M3.
It is valued at $38,500, with $20,000 provided through a grant from Pub Charity Limited and the remaining amount covered by the Landcare Group.
Tāpora Land and Coast Care Group secretary Natalie McConnell said the vehicle is an essential tool for the group’s pest control programme, allowing pest controller Mark Pengelly to safely transport traps, bait, monitoring equipment and other supplies across farmland and difficult terrain.
“The replacement vehicle is expected to support the group’s pest control efforts for at least the next five years,” McConnell said. “This work helps protect native birds, wildlife and regenerating vegetation, while also contributing to the wider goal of restoring and enhancing the peninsula’s unique coastal environment.”
The Tāpora Land and Coast Care Group works alongside landowners, volunteers and partner organisations to undertake predator control, native planting, habitat restoration and other environmental initiatives throughout the local area.
