Omaha clean up call

It will be all hands on deck on Saturday November 7 for the annual Omaha Beach Community Clean Up.

The event is being organised by Saltwater Eco and the Department of Conservation to mark Conservation Week. About 40 people helped in last year’s clean up, collecting 18 bags of rubbish, mostly plastics and micro plastics.

Organiser and marine biologist, Lydia Green, hopes to get as good a response this year. The morning will start with two marine-related talks – one on the impacts of marine debris and the other will be by underwater documentary maker Steve Hathaway. Volunteers will be eligible for discounted surf lessons and a number of raffles have been organised. The clean up starts at the Omaha Beach Surf Lifesaving Club at 11am. All welcome.
