Council contractors were busy earlier this month removing a totara tree that had fallen across the Mahurangi River, behind Warkworth Motorcycles.
The tree was blocking the entire width of the river, causing concern that it could become a hazard in heavy rain.
A nearby resident was worried that if it started to move, it could take out the bridge in Elizabeth Street.
Contractors said the wood was too rotten to salvage so was chipped and spread on vegetation along the Sesquicentennial Walkway.
