All is revealed in undie run fundraiser

Mitch Boocock

Mitch Boocock was determined not to let lockdown get in the way of raising money for Love Soup Hibiscus Coast and The Mums Clique, which runs The Haven in Silverdale.

With his all-day charitable walk (HM August 16) postponed, he decided to keep the cash flowing in by offering to run down an Ōrewa street in his undies, once $3250 was donated. And the community took him up on the offer. So, at around 8am on Monday, September 6, in the cold drizzle, Mitch started his run down Hibiscus Coast Highway, from More FM’s studio to Moana Reserve.

Normally traffic would have been busy and Mitch’s run would have been a spectacle for people at local cafés or walking dogs.

Under lockdown, however, he had the street to himself as he ran along half naked. “I set off at what, in my head, was a cracking pace, but video would later reveal to be as sedate as an overweight 50 year old should probably expect,” Mitch says.

“There was a mix of apologies to passers by and giggling coming from the More FM studio as I made it to Moana Reserve in a time that Usain Bolt would have been ashamed of.”

Appreciating his brave effort, more than $6500 has so far been donated for Love Soup and The Mums Clique.

The Givealittle page (look for Coasties Hope Walk) is open for donations until September 18.
