Teachers Ben Howson, who wore his grandfather’s British Volunteer Naval Reserve uniform, and Stacey Marfleet, whose grandfather served in Egypt.

Senior students at Snells Beach School exchanged the classroom for a mock parade ground recently when they were given the opportunity to learn more about the experiences of World War II soldiers and the equipment they used.

Parent Bridgette White helped organise the event, which included vehicles from the private collections of Steven Murphy and Tim Cooper.

On show were Willys jeeps, a 1942 LP2 NZ-made Bren gun carrier, a Daimler Dingo scout car and a 1943 GPA Ford amphibious jeep. Students were impressed by the event, which they said had given them a greater understanding of what going to war meant. ITM Warkworth was thanked for its support.
