Big thanks to shelter sponsors

Bus shelter sponsors (from left) Totalspan’s Bruce Wenzlick, BSG Civil’s Dan Turner, KDC’s general manager for service delivery, Nick Bennetts, Mangawhai Community Op Shop trustee John Sarah and Totalspan’s Brad Thomas, receiving some well-deserved recognition from Rotary members, new chair Isabel Hollis, Leah Webb, Howard Jury, Dave Kitson, Gillian Whitley and Mark Bygrave.

The sponsors of three Totalspan bus shelters for schoolchildren were publicly thanked by the Mangawhai Rotary Club on August 1.

Rotary member Howard Jury, who led the initiative, says the bus shelters were a top priority for the community in a Rotary online survey in 2022.

“The project took two years and we just want to thank these guys for hanging in there,” he said.

“Bruce [Wenzlick], from Warkworth Totalspan, held the price of the shelters over this time and the community shop honoured its original grant commitment.

“Dan [Turner], from BSG Civil, volunteered his services at no charge and T8 Traffic Control, who originally gave a very frightening quote, ended up coming to the party with a small bill, which was fantastic.”

Firth Mangawhai provided concrete at no cost, which Waipu company Dancrete laid for free and Kaipara District Council (KDC) contributed a lot of money to the costs of the resource and traffic management.

“It was a wonderful community effort.”
