Board thanks library volunteers

People across the region who volunteer at local libraries were formally thanked and acknowledged by Rodney Local Board at its monthly meeting on July 16.

Praising their “outstanding contribution” to the service, members commended 16 individuals and two groups for their dedication to Warkworth, Wellsford and Mahurangi East Libraries, and to all those who keep community-run libraries such as Leigh, Point Wells and Kaipara Flats up and running.

“From shelving and mending books, to supporting homebound customers, hosting activities and creating welcoming spaces – your time and commitment help our libraries remain places of belonging, connection and lifelong learning. Thank you for your mahi!” they said in a statement.

Special mention was made of “the amazing Lesley Coombs”, who has given over 50 years of service at Warkworth Library.

“From her early days as part of the daily library workforce to her ongoing mending work, Lesley’s contribution is truly remarkable and deeply appreciated,” members said.

Others thanked included:

Warkworth Library – Christine Death, Jan Bathgate, Lynley Dill, Marilyn Flewitt, Carlin Greenwood, Kevin, Jesse, Margaret Wright, Laraine Sheffield and Andrew Haig.

Wellsford Library – Ann Clegg, Eliana Coop, The Knitters Network.

Mahurangi East Library – The Friends of Mahurangi East Library.
