Building Facebook friendships

Are you a despondent Facebook business owner? So many of you have told me that with your reach on Facebook plummeting, you have nearly given up on posting on your business pages. You have to remember that Facebook is just a tool.

That means it is not all about how many followers you have. The real power of Facebook is the relationships you make.

Therefore, it isn’t all about putting out content but engaging and getting to know who your true fans and customers are. This isn’t something that is exclusive to Facebook, but can also be seen in everyday life. The people who walk into your store – who are they? What do they like? Where do they live? Try to have an online and offline relationship with them so you can build a stronger bond.

I’ll let you in on a secret, one of the great ways to fast track that (and the best cut through for business online) is Facebook groups.

I have been building online groups for years and consider them to be the fastest way to build strong relationships with the people in your community. Now I am not talking about you jumping into a group and just spamming it with your deals and specials, but getting in each day and engaging – starting up a conversation. Give value to the group.
Discuss what is happening in the community. Be a community player. Get to know local organisations, events and happenings. Become a sponsor of your local club. Most groups have rules about advertising but there are many ways to let people know what you do without spamming the group with advertisements.

You will find adding value to a group and posting good content will do the work for you without the need for the hard sell.

So many business owners hide behind their shop windows because they are scared of getting bad feedback but in reality, there is no bad feedback – only things you can improve on.

There are also groups that can help you in business. Build stronger working relationships with other business owners, network and collaborate. It’s not a free ride – when business is busy you will need to fit your networking online into your own time.

So think about how you can cut through on the local groups in the area and build relationships with your customers – businesses that do this stand out and on the Hibiscus Coast this seems to be the way to build a reputation.
