A sea of pink is about to brighten up local highways as riders get ready for the Northland Pink Ribbon Ride on October 18.
Organised by the Kaipara Lady Riders 1-Down 5-Up (KLR), the annual ride raises money for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. Last year riders and passengers dressed in everything from pink hi-vis gear to tutus raised over $11,000 for the charity.
The ride has been held in Northland since 2019. KLR took over the event three years ago, saying they are committed to keeping the ride fresh and exciting.
“People can expect something a little different this year. We are having an early sign-in night and supper for people who can make it. On the day, we will be doing spot prizes along the way and a big auction at the end,” KLR founder Teresa Woolley says.
This year’s ride begins in Whangārei, heads to The Central Hotel in Dargaville, then makes its way northwest of Whangārei to The Poroti Tavern.
Woolley says around 80 to 100 people usually take part in the event. Although times are tough for many, KLR are hoping to crack their fundraising goal of $10,000 this year.
“Breast cancer affects everyone; we want as many people as possible to get involved,” Woolley says.
Early sign-in starts at 5pm on October 17 at Frings Bar in Whangārei. On ride day, sign-in opens at 8am at Wynn Fraser Paint in Whangārei, with riders departing at 9.30am.
Donations to the 2026 ride can be made via the official fundraising page: Northland Pink Ribbon Ride 2026.
