Mahurangi College students Mary Innes and Tessa Berger won the speech contest at the FMG Junior Young Farmers of the Year grand final in Whangārei held earlier this month.
Women dominated the awards, with a duo from Christchurch Girls’ High School taking out the title of the 2022 FMG Junior Young Farmers of the Year.
Erin Humm and Amelia Ridgen also topped the points in the face off competition held at the Semenoff Stadium.
A total of 14 teams from around NZ competed in the two day final. Young Farmers chief executive Lynda Coppersmith said it was fantastic to see high school students’ knowledge of the food and fibre sector on full display.
“All 14 Grand Final teams and those who competed in regional finals truly are an inspiration to the future of the industry,” she said.
