Day breaks into CEO role

Michael Day

Kaipara District Council’s planning and development general manager Michael Day has been appointed as interim chief executive. The appointment follows current chief executive Jason Marris’ resignation, which takes effect on April 10. Council says Day brings more than 20 years of local government experience in both New Zealand and the United Kingdom, and has spent the past five-and-a-half years with Kaipara. Mayor Jonathan Larsen says Day’s appointment provides continuity and stability until a permanent chief executive has been appointed. “It will be several months before a permanent chief executive starts in the role,” Larsen says. “Day has the relevant skills and experience to ensure the seamless continuity of service delivery for Kaipara residents until a permanent appointment is made.” Shortlisted candidates are expected to be interviewed before the end of this financial year, with an appointment to follow soon after.
