Since its establishment in 2006, AIM (Adults in Motion) Inc. has been providing individualised vocational day services for young adults aged 16 and over, who have intellectual and/or physical disabilities.
Located at 16 Auckland Road in Warkworth, and operating four days a week, the organisation provides these young people with a diverse range of activities including gardening, educational trips and recycling projects.
Each participant develops their own Lifestyle Plan, which contains elements of their individual goals, as well as community participation opportunities.
The programmes are tailored to individual needs, and are designed to enhance social interaction, numeracy and literacy skills.
The organisation focuses on mentoring participants to achieve personal goals, but relies heavily on the support of volunteers.
“We have a dedicated and passionate staff who deliver the day programme and provide support,” a spokesperson says.
“But the programme is enhanced by volunteers who offer specific skills, and businesses and community groups which provide opportunities for inclusion.”
Currently, AIM is seeking new members to join its management committee. While previous committee experience is beneficial, it is not a requirement. The organisation welcomes individuals passionate about making a positive impact in the community.
“Volunteering at AIM offers a meaningful and rewarding experience, providing an opportunity to contribute to a more inclusive society.”
